CODES & LEGISLATION COMMITTEE

Committee Purpose:

To monitor, study, recommend policy direction and advocacy strategies on legislative and regulatory matters of a state and local government nature that affect the commercial real estate industry.


Committee Meetings:

The Codes & Legislative Committee shall meet as needed, but shall attempt to meet at least 4 times per year.


Committee Responsibilities:

  • Monitors, studies, and recommends policy direction and advocacy strategies to the Board of Directors on legislation, codes, standards, and regulatory matters of a state and local governmental that affect the commercial real estate industry and its employees as well as matters that affect the economy and the business/professional community.
  • Pursues representation at City Council meetings when necessary.
  • Communicates to Board of Directors, the general membership and other related organizations BOMA’s position on governmental codes, standards and regulating affairs issues through articles in the monthly newsletter, membership meetings, supplements and/or seminars.
  • Visits with legislators and public officials to become better acquainted and to discuss problems affecting the industry.
  • Arranges for research and, where appropriate, publication and distribution of data and information to support BOMA’s position on issues.
  • Generates support from members, related groups and civic and governmental leaders to support or oppose issues or legislation.
  • Encourages members to inform employees on issues and legislation.
  • Develops budget to cover committee activities to be included in the association annual budget and submits the budget for Board approval.
  • Maintains communication with BOMA International, other BOMA locals and industry related organizations regarding issues.
  • Submits committee report for inclusion at the Board of Directors meeting.
