World Young Rheumatic Disease Day (WORD Day) - BLUE

  • BOMA Philadelphia 1515 Market Street Philadelphia, PA, 19102 United States (map)

Take a Pain Check (TAPC) is a non-profit organization committed to the mission and vision of supporting youth and young adults with rheumatic diseases by creating a safe community through social media, initiatives, advocacy, and raising awareness. Take a Pain Check was launched as a podcast in March 2021 by Natasha Trehan and soon after became Take a Pain Check Foundation. Natasha hosts podcasts every other Sunday with guests who share their unique lived experience of rheumatic disease, offering listeners different perspectives to learn from. Guest speakers range from those living with rheumatic diseases, relatives, friends, researchers, health professionals, and individuals making a difference in the rheumatic community. The goal is to empower youth to advocate for themselves, and to create a place where they feel understood.

Approximately 1 in 1000 kids are diagnosed with arthritis. Arthritis impacts people of all ages, causing them pain, inflammation, and disability; and yet this condition is rarely discussed. This can lead to feeling alone and unrepresented, especially amongst youth with this condition. By lighting the Reconciliation Bridge blue on WORD day, it will promote awareness on arthritis, a condition that affects approximately 6 million Canadians and show the Juvenile Arthritis community that they are cared for, and have not yet again fallen through the cracks of our society.,
