World Mitochondrial Disease Week

  • BOMA Philadelphia 1515 Market Street Philadelphia, PA, 19102 United States (map)

By lighting green, you’ll be joining international landmarks around the world to help raise awareness for mitochondrial disease (Mito), a little known but devastating genetic disease with no cure. Mito is a debilitating genetic disorder that robs the body’s cells of energy, causing multiple organ dysfunction or failure and potentially death. It can cause any symptom, in any organ, at any age. Although 1 in 200 people may carry the genetic changes that could lead to Mito, few have heard of it. That’s why events like Light Up for Mito are so important.

Light Up for Mito is so important because there is no cure and for many the prognosis is very poor, including my daughter. Raising awareness conveys a strong message of hope, strength and unity to the Mito community.
